We think you'll be as shocked as we were to hear about the industrial chemicals in the bodies of this family from the adults to the baby and child who both had many times the burden that the adults had.
Anderson Cooper and Jordana Miller of CNN wrote a news report with the above title. It included an article, video, and definitions of some of the industrial chemicals found in the body including Phthalates, PBDEs, Bisphenol A, PFOAs, and PCBs.
Here are a few excerpted paragraphs from the news report "Tests Reveal High Chemical Levels In Kids' Bodies":
"We are the humans in a dangerous and unnatural experiment in the United States, and I think it's unconscionable," said Dr. Leo Trasande, assistant director of the Center for Children's Health and the Environment at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.
Trasande says that industrial toxins could be leading to more childhood disease and disorders.
"We are in an epidemic of environmentally mediated disease among American children today," he said. "Rates of asthma, childhood cancers, birth defects and developmental disorders have exponentially increased, and it can't be explained by changes in the human genome. So what has changed? All the chemicals we're being exposed to."
In 2004, the Hollands became the first intact nuclear family in the United States to undergo body burden testing. Rowan, at just 1 1/2 years old, became the youngest child in the U.S. to be tested for chemical exposure with this method.
Rowan's extraordinarily high levels of PBDEs frightened his parents and left them with a looming question: If PBDEs are causing neurological damage to lab rats, could they be doing the same thing to Rowan? The answer is that no one knows for sure.
Trasande said children up to six years old are most at risk because their vital organs and immune system are still developing and because they depend more heavily on their environments than adults do.
"Pound for pound, they eat more food, they drink more water, they breathe in more air," he said. "And so [children] carry a higher body burden than we do."

We think you'll be excited about our new Hemp shoes that we just put into the store. We have everyday shoes and sandals for women, men, and children.
You can see all the Hemp shoes for Women, Hemp shoes for Men, and Hemp shoes for Children on one page by going to the following link for Hemp Footwear - Women, Men, and Children. (In the store, this is in the section "Shop By Fabric Content - Hemp - Hemp Footwear")
Hemp Shoe Construction
The most remarkable materials in this footwear are the 100% hemp fabrics which construct the uppers, the interior lining, the tongue, and the covering of the inner soles.
For the interior, these shoes use a 14oz 100% hemp canvas for lining and inner soles. For the exterior, the manufacturer developed an extraordinary 20oz 100% hemp canvas specifically for footwear. It is the strongest hemp textile material by weight ever produced; it rivals the strength of the ancient sails that were more than twice its weight. They have spared no expense in the quality of the fibers and have used modern technology to maximize the strength, performance, and appearance of this phenomenal fabric.
The yarns used to weave this 20oz fabric are composed of pure line fibers of tremendous strength. These are the longest of fibers. They have been thoroughly combed clean and wet spun into a very fine and consistent yarn, which is woven with great pressure and precision into this smooth, consistent, supple, and tight canvas.
After weaving, it goes through an intensive finishing process which preshrinks it and makes the weave even tighter and more consistent. This fabric is water-resistant; it is waterproofed with an eco-friendly substance that contains no heavy metals or other environmentally-destructive materials. Finally, it is dyed with the same eco-friendly, high-performance, fiber-reactive dyes that are used on all of the hemp fabrics.
This remarkable textile was created through several years of research and development that focused on producing the qualities needed for comfortable high-performance footwear: durability, structure, and suppleness. Hemp footwear can now compete head-on with leather and synthetics while preserving our ecology and providing greater comfort and health!

Memorial Day commemorates all military personnel from all battles who fought to keep the U.S. a free nation.
The cause may be summarized in Patrick Henry's famed March 23, 1775 speech to the House of Burgesses (the legislative body of the Virginia colony), which contained the following phrase: "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?...I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!"
Whether one agrees or not with all wars fought by the U.S., based on politics and the decisions of those in power, we wish to honor all military personnel who gave their time, their valiant efforts, their limbs, and their life to "give us liberty" and keep us free.
WIthout detracting from honoring our military personnel, we'd like to raise the awareness of another "liberty", another right, a freedom deserved by all people on earth: the freedom and right to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and eat healthy, nutritious food. The founding of Yes It's Organic was based on making one small effort toward these "rights."
There is no doubt that pollution kills. Unfortunately, we sometimes have to fight these more subtle battles both within the U.S. and, due to global trading, around the world. In this case, supporting the growth of Organic practices in growing the crops and processing the fiber, yarn, fabric, and finished goods, is a step toward giving us and other peoples everywhere our liberty.
There is nothing more important to sustain life than the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat.
The Team Members at Yes It's Organic wish to honor our military personnel from all battles. We also wish to honor people like you - our readers, our customers, and our friends - who fight every day to sustain the highest quality for our air, water, and food by supporting Organic food and textiles.

Throughout most of human history, all farming, cotton and otherwise, was basically organic by default. There were no synthetic pesticides or insecticides. That changed with the World Wars and the first large-scale deployment of chemicals specifically formulated to eradicate life.
The descendants of these deadly chemicals were later applied to farming.
In the case of cotton, this is part of a war on weeds and pests that attack cotton. And, just as in any other war, many innocent bystanders, including plants, animals, and humans, are wounded and killed -- a tragedy that continues to this day.
Did You Know?Non-organic cotton consumes approximately 25% of the pesticides and more than 10% of the insecticides used in the world. Some of these chemicals are among the most toxic classified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Non-organic farming devours roughly a third of a pound of pesticides and fertilizers to produce enough cotton for a single t-shirt.
Pesticides used in non-organic farming can enter the human food chain. Because cotton is grown primarily for its fiber, it is regulated as a non-food crop.
In fact, the majority of the cotton plant in the form of cottonseed, approximately 60% by weight, ends up in our food supply. Cottonseed is used to make oil that is used in processed foods. Beef and dairy cows are fed cotton straw, cottonseed meal, and waste from cotton gins.
Organic cotton provides all the quality and texture you've come to expect from cotton products.
The production of cotton has a huge impact on the world we live in and raise our children.
Organic cotton feels good on your skin - and great on your conscience.
